Hospice Marlborough is thrilled to announce the receipt of a generous grant of $11,600 from the Marlborough Hospital Equipment Trust (MHET).
This substantial contribution has enabled the procurement of the organisation’s new bladder scan, marking a pivotal moment in ensuring the continued provision of quality care to our community.
The necessity for this vital equipment upgrade became apparent in October 2023 when Hospice Marlborough received communication from Verathon Medical (Australis) Pty Ltd. Despite the 13-year-old bladder scan BVI3000 being serviceable until December 31, 2023, the looming cessation of spare parts production rendered its future reliability uncertain. With Verathon discontinuing production, the inevitability of the current bladder scan becoming unserviceable and unfit for purpose compelled Hospice Marlborough to seek a solution.
Recognizing the indispensable role of the bladder scan within the Inpatient Unit, Hospice Marlborough completed a thorough evaluation process. “Hospice Marlborough had been trailing the Bladder Scan BVI6100, a handheld mobile scanner” says Facilities & Grants Lead Sara Mitchell who also works part-time as a Health Care Assistant in the Hospice In-Patient Unit. “This state-of-the-art device not only promises enhanced functionality but also offers the flexibility of conducting procedures as part of our in-community care, alleviating the need for patients to commute to our facility”.
The support from MHET has been invaluable.
“Their generosity has enabled Hospice Marlborough to uphold our commitment to delivering compassionate and comprehensive palliative care to those in need and we express our deepest gratitude for their ongoing support”, adds Mitchell.
About the Marlborough Hospital Equipment Trust
Established in June 1991, the MHET has been instrumental in supporting hospitals and medical facilities by financing essential equipment. From the first piece of equipment to be financed, a state-of-the-art Toshiba Ultrasound Scanner in 1990, the Trust has evolved to donate funds directly to medical institutions for equipment purchases. Recent donations have enhanced various medical facilities, underscoring MHET’s commitment to improving healthcare services. Current Trustees include Roger Rose, Ross Anderson, John Cuddon, Greg King, and John Hedley.
